DISTRICT 7
MEET TCHAD

ROXBURY ROOTS
Tchad Akilah Cort is a proud candidate of Afro-Caribbean descent, born and raised in Roxbury. Her mother is a U.S. Army veteran and retired Mental Health Counselor, and her father is an Economics professor from Guyana. Growing up with such strong role models in education and advocacy, Tchad was instilled with a deep sense of community and a commitment to service. Their examples have shaped her academic journey and continue to inspire her work as a leader who is dedicated to advocating for the needs of all residents. As your District 7 City Council candidate, Tchad brings a perspective grounded in family values, education, and a lifelong dedication to improving her community.
Tchad is a graduate of Boston Latin School and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology, where her father continues to teach. She also earned an MBA from the University of Tampa. After completing her graduate studies, Tchad returned to Boston, where she began her career in public service. Her strong academic foundation, combined with her professional and personal experiences, give her a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing District 7.
PAYING IT FORWARD
After graduating from Boston Public Schools, Tchad returned to the district to serve as an Operations Coordinator in the Department of Transportation, where she played a key role in ensuring the safe and timely commute of over 20,000 students each day. Her dedication continued as she transitioned to the role of Transportation Specialist, overseeing specialized services for students with unique transportation needs. Her experience in the BPS Department of Transportation has given her a deep understanding of the essential services that support our families and the importance of ensuring all residents, particularly our children, have access to safe and reliable resources.
Tchad has been an active member of the Boston Teachers Union (BTU) for the past 15 years. For the 2024-2025 school year, she was elected as a Building Representative — a historic achievement as the first Department of Transportation employee in BTU history to hold this role. Her leadership within the union reflects her unwavering dedication to standing up for workers, ensuring they have a voice, fair treatment, and the support they deserve.
Tchad’s volunteer activities reflect her deep commitment to both her community and her faith. As a member of the Church of Christ in Roxbury, she has been actively involved in local outreach and support. She also serves as a board member for the Friends of the Roxbury Branch Library, where she works to strengthen the community’s connection to Boston's wonderful library branch system. Additionally, she volunteers with the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), managed by the City of Boston's Office of Emergency Management, helping to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in times of crisis.
